A girl who has never been outside.
A boy sending songs into the dark.
Someone else listening.
Marie has never been outside. Hidden in the basement of an isolated house, she and her mother are held captive by her father—a pastor adored by his congregation. A radio is her only connection to the wider world.
Nearby, a boy broadcasts his own music over a pirate frequency. Hidden in his songs are messages for Marie, and a plan to help her escape. But she is not his only listener.
Another boy betrays the Broadcaster to the authorities. Arrested at seventeen before he can meet Marie, the Broadcaster goes to prison. When she escapes, the Imposter claims he was the one behind the music all along.
As adults, Marie and the Imposter become a media sensation. The world celebrates their supposed love story while the Broadcaster hears her interviews from his prison cell. He plots his escape, intent on killing the Imposter and reuniting with Marie.
Once, his music reached into her captivity. Now, her voice reaches into his.
